ITVET's

ITVETs

ETES is the headquarters of all ITVETs. ITVETs refers to the Institutes for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.  ITVETs evolved from the Centers for Employment Training.   Currently there is an ITVET in each of the six districts of Belize. ITVET Toledo has been relocated to its new site at Salamanca. Construction and rehabilitation of the new site of ITVET Belize is almost completed.

ITVET Mission

To equip Belizeans with skills, knowledge, attitude, work ethics and credentials that will enable them to become gainfully employed.

ITVET Vision

To provide trainees with access to skills training and support services to obtain better jobs that will ultimately improve their quality of life and thus participate in the national and regional development.

ITVET Goals

ITVET will enable individuals to:
  1. Enter the job market with increased employability skills.
  2. Attain advancement in their current employment situation.
  3. Offer an improved quality of service
  4. Engage in an entrepreneurial venture

ITVET Target Groups

The major target groups identified include:  high school graduates, 15+ who have or have not completed primary education and/or secondary education, working population seeking skill upgrades and/or retraining for certification (BzNVQ) and a group of persons from industry or the community seeking customized training.

Entry Requirements

Core programs offered at the ITVETs are at levels 1, 2 and 3.  In order to enroll in Level 1, all applicants must:
  1. be at least 15 years of age
  2. have the equivalent of a second form level high school
  3. sit a diagnostic exam

 

Should the applicant not possess the basic academic requirement to be able to pursue the program successfully, he/she must enroll in the prevocational program offered at the ITVETs in order to obtain the basic entry academic requirement.

Applicants wanting to pursue Levels 2 and 3 in Building Construction, Auto Mechanics, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and Industrial Electronics must have been exposed to High School Math, English, Physics, Chemistry (or Integrated Science).
